459 repos hold half the stars in open-source AI
The catalogue holds 10,840 projects and 58,331,228 stars. Cross the list from the top and you reach half of all those stars at project number 459 — 4.2% of the shelf. The top 1% hold a quarter; the bottom half hold 5%.
One fork for every 6.9 stars — and what the ratio tells you
A star costs one click; a fork is a copy someone took. Across 10,840 projects the ratio barely moves — which turns its outliers into signal.
127 repos above 10,000 stars are held up by fewer than ten people
Across 1,190 projects above 10,000 stars, the median has 78 contributors, 54.6% have fewer than 100, and 127 have fewer than ten.
We measured 10,491 open-source AI projects. 42% have gone quiet.
